Lauren Pardini pretty much does it all- the singer/songwriter/keyboardist/vocal producer extraordinaire is a writer in the hip-hop camp of DJ Khalil (Eminem, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, 50 cent) and part of LA-based electronic indie-pop duo PR0FILES. She took the time to answer a few questions for WHERE MY GIRLS AT? about her experience as a woman in the music industry, her musical influences, as well as advice for aspiring young female musicians. Take a listen to PR0FILES' first single "Call Yourself a Lover" from their debut album, Jurassic Technologie, set to be released in 2014. If you are in LA head on over to their debut show, tomorrow October 17th at The Hotel Cafe (more show information here).
What are some of your influences or role models?
"I've got too many influences to count, but I think a lot of the time PR0FILES always returns to bands like Prince and Hall and Oates for references. Me and Danny just love really good songwriters and solid production teams. Otherwise, I personally adore Daft Punk, lots of hip-hop and Led Zeppelin."
Tell me about what your experience has been like as a woman in the music industry. Have you had any experiences where you felt like sexism contributed to how you were treated?
"My experience has been amazing despite what you always hear about the music industry! In music and life, I choose to work with awesome people who treat everyone with respect. No one is so important that if I don't like their vibe I need to put up with it. But those stories definitely exist. I'm just blessed with the coolest crew around."
What messages do you hope to send to aspiring young girl musicians? What advice do you have for young girl musicians?
"Don't be afraid to speak up and ask questions around the boys. Everybody's got something to learn."
