Scotland's Honeyblood (Stina Tweeddale and Shona McViccar) released their debut single, "Bud" via FatCat Records. "Bud" is the song you need for this transition from summer to fall- "it’s a song about when everything goes to shit, fuck it." "I have always stated that we're two girls who play loud music, because we are and that's what we do." -Honeyblood London's Sophie Jamieson creates hauntingly dreamy folk music and has been compared toDaughter and Sharon Van Etten (two of my favorite folk women singer/songwriters). "The Weight Comes" is from her debut, Where EP, released in June 2013, via Folkroom Records. You can stream Sophie Jamieson's Where EP, via SoundCloud here. “Sophie has a way of delivering words that makes you want to listen intently and, combined with a voice that is so beautiful it’ll stop you in your tracks, it makes for a truly stunning experience.” – JustMusicThatILike.com UK songstress, Laura Welsh is building a beautifully-raw compilation of music prior to releasing a debut album. With a few singles out there ("Unravel", "Ghosts", "Hollow Drum", "Cold Front") and an EP, The Cold Front EP, her new track "Undiscovered" is said to be on her debut album due out sometime early next year. "Unravel as well as "Undiscovered" were co-written with Dev Hynes of Blood Orange and she collaborated with Robin Hannibal of Rhye for "Cold Front." Take a listen to "Undiscovered" below. Hallelujah, a new track from Phantogram. The beat-influenced indie-pop duo (Joshua Carter and Sarah Barthel) from Sarasota Springs, New York released their debut album, Eyelid Movies back in 2009. Since then, they have released an EP, Nightlife in 2011 and have worked with Big Boi from Outkast and The Flaming Lips. It's been a while since we've heard new music from them- let's hope their sophomore album isn't too far off in the future. Wolf Alice began as Ellie Roswell's solo project and evolved to include guitarist, Joff Oddie and later, Joel Amey and Theo Ellis. The rocky-pop quartet from London is set to release their EP Blush, October 7th via Chess Club. Take a listen to "Blush" the recently released lead single from their EP. Based in Portland, Oregon, Pure Bathing Culture is composed of Sarah Versprille and Daniel Hidman (Zach Tillman plays bass live and Brian Wright plays drums live). Sarah and Daniel also play in the indie folk band- Vetiver. I was exposed to Pure Bathing Culture at the Jansport Bonfire Sessions in Seattle this past August. "Lucky One" is a single off their 2012 four-track EP. They played their EP for Robert Swift (producer and band member of The Shins) and he invited them to record at his National Freedom studio in Cottage Grove, OR. They recorded their debut album, Moon Tides with Swift over the course of 10 days and it was released on August 20, 2013. "Pendulum" is a single from their Moon Tides album and I would highly recommend listening to the album as a whole. England's The Staves, are a sister folk trio (Emily- vocals, Jessica- vocals and guitar, Camilla- vocals and ukelele)- their debut album Dead & Born & Grown was released in November 2012. September Girls- a garage-pop quintet from Dublin, Ireland got their name from a Big Star song covered by The Bangles. Their music has been characterized as "radiant noise pop of the finest order, guitars distorted, verses simple and catchy, drums energetic, it sure is sweet on the ears". Listen to their new single, "Ships"- their debut album is set to be released in January 2014 with another single coming in October 2013. |
